![]() It has space travel, mutants, fighting, shooting, mystery, suspense, a billion plot twists, and Arnold Schwarzenegger! The mutant make-up effects are especially cool, and they're done by Rob Bottin who worked on The Thing. The great story is based on the works of great sci-fi writer Phillip K. Dick who also wrote the stories that Bladerunner, Screamers, Minority Report, Impostor and A Scanner Darkly were made from. Like most of his stories, Total Recall has cool future tech and a theme revolving around identity. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Doug Quaid. Either his memory implant of a virtual vacation has gone horribly wrong, or he's a mindwiped secret agent fighting to liberate the population of Mars. Also phenominal in the movie are Sharon Stone [in her prime!], Rachel Ticotin [also great in Con Air and Critical Condition], and Michael Ironside [great in Scanners, Starship Troopers, V and Justice League!].![]() I love how it leaves it up to you to draw your own conclusions about what really happened! This movie just gets better the more times you watch it! I especially love Doug Quaid's awesome high tech disguise he uses to get through Mars security, The cool hologram projector he uses and the gory mutant leader of the rebellion, Kuato. There's no need for a sequel, Total Recall is perfect as it is. But if I were making a sequel, I'd start with Quaid being revived in the Rekall machine. Surprisingly enough, this was one of those floating scripts that nobody really knew what to do with. Then Paul Verhoeven [director of Robocop and Starship Troopers] came along and made this sci-fi masterpiece! There was a tv show made called Total Recall 2070, but it really had nothing to do with this great movie. The Total Recall logo will link to my cool Total Recall site [it's down for retooling, but still a high priority, stay tuned!]. Here are some other cool Total Recall links:Total Recall at the IMDB. ![]() controls things with unseen forces. I do not trust the government, or the police, and I don't think anyone really should. We live in a world that is easily manipulated by the powerful for their own means. Anyway, this movie addresses some of that, and a lot more. The movie will blow your mind, and make you think hard about a lot of stuff. This is another movie that gets better the more you watch it! Conspiracy Theory is a definite MUST SEE! It stars Mel Gibson as the most paranoid guy I've ever seen. He locks his apartment, his fridge, and even individual food so nobody can drug him I guess. Anyway, he's ![]() obsessed with Julia Roberts [also great in Flatliners!] in the movie [but who isn't?]. Patrick Stewart [Captain Picard in Star Trek: TNG and Star Trek: First Contact] plays the diabolical villain excellently too! When Stewart kidnaps and drugs Gibson is one of the funniest movie scenes ever! If you're a conspiracy nut like me, you'll love this movie! This is both Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts best movie! ![]() It's cool especially because it's not about space monsters or anything, just somebody else out there who contacts us. It's a positive alien movie like Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I'm not usually a big Jodie Foster fan, but she's really good as the lead in Contact. There are a lot of other great actors in Contact too, like Jake Busey [also in The Frighteners, Starship Troopers, and Enemy of the State], James Woods [great in Vampires and Videodrome], Angela Bassett [cool in Strange Days and Alias], ![]() David Morse [great in 12 Monkeys and The Negotiator] and Matthew McConaughey [also cool in Frailty, U-571 and Reign of Fire]. The special effects are really excellent, and help make this great sci-fi story even more believable. I'm a believer in extraterrestrial life, and if you're a skeptic, this movie will show you the obvious. There's just no way all of our universe only has one little planet full of life. I usually can't stand religion in movies, but it fits decently in this one. If you haven't seen Contact yet, check it out! I've linked the title to the Official Site while it's up. ![]() can't be stopped even with the gas chamber. Elias Koteas [also excellent in The Prophecy] is amazing as Edgar Reese and even though he's not in the movie long, he sets the character up so perfectly that you believe it's him even when others are playing the part! It's interesting too, that The Prophecy and Fallen are both different takes on the same theme. If you like Fallen as much as I do, you have to see The Prophecy too! Other phenominal cast members include Denzel Washington [from Virtuosity and Training Day], John Goodman [also cool in Matinee, Monsters Inc. and The Big Lebowski], Embeth Davidtz [cool in Thir13en Ghosts], Donald Sutherland [also in The Puppet Masters, the 70's version of the Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, Backdraft, and Virus] and James Gandolfini ![]() [Tony from The Sopranos] among others. There are so many great parts, but you'll especially never forget the very unique chase scene with Embeth Davidtz. Graham Beckel [from Blue Streak] is very cool and menacing in his short role that starts off that great chase. It's not too often you see a great supernatural cop movie, and Fallen is a perfect example of how to do it right. And even though the ending will surprise you, it's not really a twist. More like the whole movie is a twist. Denzel Washington is in a lot of cool stuff, but to me Fallen is his best movie by far. I really would've loved to see more of Reese [in flashbacks or something], that one character really makes the whole movie great. The Fallen logo links to the official Fallen site that's still up! ![]() but it works amazingly well. If you want realism watch the news, this is solid entertainment! It features fantastic performances by Nicolas Cage [cool in Con Air and Gone In 60 Seconds], and John Travolta [also great in Broken Arrow, another John Woo action film!] where they both get to play the hero and the villain in the same film! It's directed by John Woo who's an amazing action director, and famous for having his own unique high octane action style. The movie is about an ![]() FBI agent and a terrorist who killed his son. After a lot of action, the terrorist is apparently rendered a vegetable. To stop his last terrorist act, the cop has to undergo a face transplant procedure to become the terrorist and get info on the bomb. The only catch is that the terrorist wasn't as out of commission as everyone thought. Also great in the movie are Joan Allen as the cop's wife, the very attractive Dominique Swain as the cop's daughter, CCH Pounder [also in Demon Knight and End of Days], Gina Gershon [from Bound and Red Heat], and watch for Danny Masterson [Hyde on That 70's Show] in a small part.
