Liar Liar is my favorite Jim Carrey movie! It's a riot! Carey [also great in Bruce Almighty, the Ace Ventura movies, The Mask, Fun With Dick & Jane and others] plays Fletcher Reede, a lawyer who turns lying into a 24/7 art form.  Meanwhile, he's not doing such a great job as a dad, and after being let down yet again, his son Max [Justin Cooper] uses his birthday wish to stop his dad from lying for twenty four hours. This causes all kind of mayhem in Fletcher's life, and all of it is absolutely hilarious. It's funny how much everybody lies to get through the day, most of the time you don't even realize it. He's trying a divorce case, with his client being played by Jennifer Tilly [also cool in Bride of Chucky]. The case depends on his ability to lie, so he even resorts to beating himself up to get a continuance. Meanwhile his ex-wife [Maura Tierney, from Welcome To Mooseport, Newsradio and ER] is tired of him always giving their son excuses and considers moving away with her boyfriend [Cary Elwes from Princess Bride, Kiss The Girls and Saw]. Also great in the movie are Anne Haney [from Mrs. Doubtfire, L.A. Law and Star Trek: TNG], and the great Jason Bernard as the judge. This was his last movie, you've seen him in a hundred cool shows.  Plus there's Amanda Donohoe, Swoosie Kurtz, Eric Pierpoint [from Enterprise, 7 Days, The Pretender and many others], Cheri Oteri [from SNL], and Krista Allen [from Fastlane, Smallville and The X-Files]. If you really want to laugh your ass off, watch Liar Liar! The movie's directed by Tom Shadyac, who also directed Ace Ventura and Bruce Almighty. I'm hoping he partners up with Jim Carrey again, they've all been cool so far. I love the scene where he kicks his own ass, the scene where he unzips and climbs out of the luggage, and how Cary Elwes' character is so much like Spencer Reede but with no personality. We all know that the most evil force on earth is the human race. But if there was some way to stop that, would it cost us everything that's good in us? Equilibrium shows us a world where that's exactly what has happened.  It is decided that human emotion will destroy our world if left unchecked. So everyone is put on a drug called Librium, that supresses emotion so people can now concentrate on making themselves and the world better. So peace spreads across the world, but at the cost of our humanity. Of course in a situation like this, there must be enforcement. A force of very highly trained warriors called the Grammaton Clerics are given this job. They're trained in an unbelievably cool fighting technique called Gun Kata, that has to be seen to be believed! Christian Bale [from American Psycho, Reign Of Fire and Batman Begins] stars as ace Grammaton Cleric John Preston. The movie is the story of how he stops taking Librium and opens his eyes to the world again. Also phenominal in Equilibrium are Sean Pertwee [from Event Horizon and Soldier] as the big brother like leader known only as Father, Sean Bean [from Ronin, The Lord of the Rings movies, National Treasure and The Island],  William Fichtner [from Strange Days, Contact and Armageddon], Angus Macfadyen [from 5 Days To Midnight], Taye Diggs [from House On Haunted Hill], Emily Watson and watch for a small cameo by Dominic Purcell [from John Doe and Prison Break]. I love the scenes where John Preston is trying to conceal his developing emotions, and the awesome point blank gunfight you'll never forget! Trust me, if you like action or sci-fi even a little, you have to see Equilibrium! It really has turned the action movie genre on it's ear. Trial and Error is another great courtroom comedy. It stars two great and funny actors,   Jeff Daniels [from Dumb and Dumber, Speed and Arachnophobia], Michael Richards [from UHF, Problem Child, Airheads and Seinfeld] and two super hot and great actresses, Charlize Theron [from The Devil's Advocate, The Astronaut's Wife, Mighty Joe Young, Reindeer Games, The Italian Job and Aeon Flux] and Jessica Steen [from Armageddon, Earth 2, The Outer Limits and Stargate SG1]. I'm a huge Kramer fan, but Michael Richards has some great non-Seinfeld work too! He's fantastic in Trial and Error, and I really hope he'll break the Seinfeld curse like Jason Alexander has. Jeff Daniels is great too, but he's definitely second bannana here. But hell, if second bannana spends his time with the super hot Charlize Theron then sign me up! This is one of her earlier movies and her coolness really shows here. But let's not forget one of my favorite actresses, Jessica Steen. She's great as the straight laced prosecutor with a wild side. Also great are   Austin Pendleton as the highly amused judge, Rip Torn [from Summer Rental and Men In Black] as a hilarious con man, Max Casella [Vinnie from Doogie Howser!] as the too young medical expert and Jennifer Coolidge [from American Pie and Joey] as the quirky new age doctor. I love the scene where Jeff Daniels falls through the courtroom ceiling, Rip Torn's sob story, and when Jessica Steen flips out while questioning him about it, Charlize Theron taking Jeff Daniels out to shoot stuff in the desert, and the crazy defense Michael Richards comes up with. Rocketman is probably the funniest movie I've ever seen! It's rated G and it's from Disney, which are usually   horrible marks against a movie for me. But this one's different. When I first saw the commercial for Rocketman where there's an equipment problem and two astronauts link their air supply, then the farting begins, I laughed out loud and knew I had to see this one! Rocketman stars the great Harland Williams [from Half Baked and Ned's Newt], as Fred Z Randall, would-be astronaut. When the first manned mission to Mars loses a crew member, they train him as a replacement. The scene where the monkey takes his sleep pod is too funny! Great character actor William Sadler [from Demon Knight, Disturbing Behavior, Star Trek: DS9 and The Outer Limits] is the top-gun astronaut who hates Fred. The very hot Jessica Lundy is the one who Fred worships and   finally gets to work with. This movie has so many funny scenes you'll laugh till you cry. I've seen Rocketman a ton of times, and it never fails to crack me up. It's a very underrated movie and a lot of people may not have seen it. Trust me, if you want to laugh watch Rocketman!! The biggest problem with the movie is that so far it's only on VHS. It's one of the very few uses I still have for a vcr! Alien vs. Predator gets a lot of flack from critics. But how could any action film featuring the space monsters from the Alien movies and the very cool Predators not be cool? I'll be honest, everyone says the original Alien movie is such a classic.  But I'd seen so many of it's imitators by the time I saw the movie, it lost a lot of it's impact. My favorite movie of the series is Alien Resurrection. Predator is an absolute sci-fi action classic! Although it's way more about the Predator than it is Arnold's character, it still kicks ass. The sequel was not as good but still cool. In both series, the focus is on the people that come up against the creatures. That's what worried me going into AVP. Fortunately the movie realized that in a movie called Alien vs. Predator the people are background characters. Nobody really cares where they're from or what's making them tick. This movie is rightfully centered on the battle between monsters. And what makes this movie really great for me is the same thing that I love about Freddy vs. Jason, a perfect balance between each monster. It's not an Alien movie with Predators in it, or vice versa. Alien vs. Predator is exactly fifty percent focused on each monstrous creature!  All the actors, even the great Lance Henriksen [from Pumpkinhead, Near Dark, The Terminator, some of the Alien movies, Millennium and Harsh Realm] rightfully don't try to steal the show. After all, the movie's not called "Group Of People" is it? The only problem I have is the rating. This really should've been an R rated movie with more onscreen violence. Although I hear a lot of that stuff was shot and will be put back into the Unrated Edition of the DVD. If you'd like to see a movie with two groups of legendary movie monsters hunting each other, you'll probably like AVP.
