Lost Boys won the poll I had on the old site for favorite vampire movie. It's great 80's horror,   with a lot of good comedy mixed in. It's about a newly divorced mother [Dianne Wiest] and her two sons Michael [Jason Patric] and Sam [Corey Haim from Silver Bullet] who move in with her eccentric father [Barnard Hughes from Blossom]. Sam becomes friends with the Frog brothers [Jamison Newlander from The Blob and Corey Feldman from The Burbs, Stand By Me, Goonies, Friday the 13th IV & V, and Gremlins among others] who tell him the town is plagued by vampires. Meanwhile Michael meets a girl named Star [Jami Gertz also great on Still Standing] who hangs with a gang of biker punks David   [Kiefer Sutherland from Stand By Me, Flatliners, Truth or Consequences, N.M, Dark City and 24], Paul [Brooke McCarter], Dwayne [Billy Wirth], and Marko [Alex Winter from the Bill & Ted movies]. Also of note is Edward Herrmann [from OZ and The Practice] as Max, the local video store owner. It's too bad Corey Feldman's not a huge star now, he was in a lot of great stuff early on. Lost Boys and Truth or Consequences, N.M are my two favorite Kiefer Sutherland movies, and even though From Dusk Till Dawn is my favorite vampire movie, this one's close. People once believed that when a person dies, a crow carried their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something   so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes, The Crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right. That's the story behind The Crow. This great movie is also known for the accident during filming that killed Brandon Lee. Lee was really great as Eric Draven, who came back to have his vengeance. I've never read the comics the movie was based on, but I really like The Crow. It really has a dark atmosphere that very few movies achieve. It's directed by Alex Proyas who also directed Dark City and I, Robot. I really love all the over the top violence and the glee that Draven has while dispensing his grisly justice! The rest of the cast is phenominal too,  including Ernie Hudson [from Ghostbusters and OZ], Michael Wincott [from Alien Resurrection, Strange Days and The Doors], David Patrick Kelly [from Commando and 48 Hours], Laurence Mason [Lord Nikon from Hackers!], Jon Polito [from The Big Lebowski and The Chronicle] and Tony Todd [from the Candyman movies, Final Destination, and Star Trek DS9 among others]. That's a fantastic collection of great character actors, and they all make the movie even better! If you like dark gothic action and violence, The Crow's just what you're looking for. Okay, I'm not a big fan of black and white movies in general, but there are some that are classics no matter what. Frankenstein, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Day The Earth Stood Still   and The Last Man On Earth immediately come to mind. Last Man stars Vincent Price [great in Dead Heat among many others] as Robert Morgan, a zombie plague survivor. He has an immunity to the virus that's swept the world, leaving him to hunt zombies by day and barricade himself in at night. Price is excellent in this movie, which has the tone of an old Twilight Zone episode. The zombies are some of the coolest in any movie, because they're very unique. They're shambling zombies [like the ones in George Romero's movies], but they   follow vampire rules, like sunlight, garlic, etc. They're zombie vampires! Poor Morgan can hear the creatures surrounding him at night yelling his name. The atmosphere created in The Last Man On Earth is flawless, and the movie's an absolute must-see! It's adapted from the book I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. Another movie was made from the same book, Omega Man starring Charleton Heston. It's okay, but really doesn't even come close to Last Man on Earth. If you like what you see on this site, then you'll love this movie! Eraser is one of Arnold's best, and an all time classic action movie! The very hot Vanessa Williams [from Hoodlum] stars as a defence contractor employee who   has stumbled onto a very crooked arms deal. After gathering evidence for the feds, she finds out she's in way more trouble than they led her to believe. It's up to ace Witness Relocation agent John Kruger [Schwarzenegger] to keep her alive and untangle the mess he gets caught in. Arnold has a ton of great movies, but I could really watch 10 more John Kruger movies, he really kicks ass! James Caan [from Las Vegas] is really excellent as another Witsec agent with his own agenda too! The guy who really makes this movie great to me though is the formerly erased Johnny C. [Robert Pastorelli from Bait and Murphy Brown]. You can really see from Eraser how phenominal an actor he was, it's a shame his career was cut so short. For an action movie, Eraser has more than it's share of memorable action scenes. I love those high-tech guns, they rule! Plus, Eraser has one of the coolest parachuting scenes since Point Break! Not to mention explosions,   Arnold getting that shrapnel through his hand and shrugging it off, the whole crocodile sequence at the zoo, and a great explosive ending among others! Eraser has everything an action fan could want! Also of note are very small appearances by the very cool James Cromwell [from Star Trek: First Contact, Deep Impact, LA Confidential, I Robot, Night Court and Strange Luck among others], Cylk Cozart [from Conspiracy Theory], and if you look closely at the nurse who uses the defibrulators on Johnny C., it's Camryn Manheim [from The Practice]. Starship Troopers is a fantastic sci-fi war epic! It's based on the book by excellent sci-fi writer Robert A. Heinlein [who also wrote The Puppet Masters]. And   it's directed by cool director Paul Verhoeven [who also directed Robocop and Total Recall]. The movie is set in a future world with a very different political outlook, a world that's at war with a race of alien bugs from across the galaxy. The absolutely huge cast is fantastic and includes Casper Van Dien [from The Time Shifters], Dina Meyer [from Johnny Mnemonic, Saw and Birds of Prey], Denise Richards [from Undercover Brother], Jake Busey [from Tomcats, Enemy of the State, Contact, The Frighteners, Jeremiah and Fastlane], Neil Patrick Harris [from Doogie Howser, M.D., Capitol Critters, Quantum Leap, The Outer Limits and Undercover Brother], Clancy Brown [from The Highlander, Earth 2, ER season 4, and a zillion cartoon voices], Patrick Muldoon [from The Arrival II], Michael Ironside [from Scanners,  Total Recall, The Machinist, ER season 1, Justice League and Smallville], and Marshall Bell [from Virus, Truth or Consequences, N.M., Total Recall and The Puppet Masters]. With the exception of Saving Private Ryan, Starship Troopers is the goriest and grittiest war movie I've seen. And the tremendously cool special effects for the bugs, ships, etc. are really unforgettable. I heard that the movie is a lot different than the book, but since I never read it I'm not bothered by that. So if you're looking for a great sci-fi movie with a great cast and tons of action and gore, check out Starship Troopers.
