Lost Boys won the poll I had on the old site for favorite vampire movie. It's great 80's horror, with a lot of good comedy mixed in. It's about a newly divorced mother [Dianne Wiest] and her two sons Michael [Jason Patric] and Sam [Corey Haim from Silver Bullet] who move in with her eccentric father [Barnard Hughes from Blossom]. Sam becomes friends with the Frog brothers [Jamison Newlander from The Blob and Corey Feldman from The Burbs, Stand By Me, Goonies, Friday the 13th IV & V, and Gremlins among others] who tell him the town is plagued by vampires. Meanwhile Michael meets a girl named Star [Jami Gertz also great on Still Standing] who hangs with a gang of biker punks David [Kiefer Sutherland from Stand By Me, Flatliners, Truth or Consequences, N.M, Dark City and 24], Paul [Brooke McCarter], Dwayne [Billy Wirth], and Marko [Alex Winter from the Bill & Ted movies]. Also of note is Edward Herrmann [from OZ and The Practice] as Max, the local video store owner. It's too bad Corey Feldman's not a huge star now, he was in a lot of great stuff early on. Lost Boys and Truth or Consequences, N.M are my two favorite Kiefer Sutherland movies, and even though From Dusk Till Dawn is my favorite vampire movie, this one's close. People once believed that when a person dies, a crow carried their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes, The Crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right. That's the story behind The Crow. This great movie is also known for the accident during filming that killed Brandon Lee. Lee was really great as Eric Draven, who came back to have his vengeance. I've never read the comics the movie was based on, but I really like The Crow. It really has a dark atmosphere that very few movies achieve. It's directed by Alex Proyas who also directed Dark City and I, Robot. I really love all the over the top violence and the glee that Draven has while dispensing his grisly justice! The rest of the cast is phenominal too, including Ernie Hudson [from Ghostbusters and OZ], Michael Wincott [from Alien Resurrection, Strange Days and The Doors], David Patrick Kelly [from Commando and 48 Hours], Laurence Mason [Lord Nikon from Hackers!], Jon Polito [from The Big Lebowski and The Chronicle] and Tony Todd [from the Candyman movies, Final Destination, and Star Trek DS9 among others]. That's a fantastic collection of great character actors, and they all make the movie even better! If you like dark gothic action and violence, The Crow's just what you're looking for. Okay, I'm not a big fan of black and white movies in general, but there are some that are classics no matter what. Frankenstein, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Day The Earth Stood Still and The Last Man On Earth immediately come to mind. Last Man stars Vincent Price [great in Dead Heat among many others] as Robert Morgan, a zombie plague survivor. He has an immunity to the virus that's swept the world, leaving him to hunt zombies by day and barricade himself in at night. Price is excellent in this movie, which has the tone of an old Twilight Zone episode. The zombies are some of the coolest in any movie, because they're very unique. They're shambling zombies [like the ones in George Romero's movies], but they follow vampire rules, like sunlight, garlic, etc. They're zombie vampires! Poor Morgan can hear the creatures surrounding him at night yelling his name. The atmosphere created in The Last Man On Earth is flawless, and the movie's an absolute must-see! It's adapted from the book I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. Another movie was made from the same book, Omega Man starring Charleton Heston. It's okay, but really doesn't even come close to Last Man on Earth. If you like what you see on this site, then you'll love this movie! The original Night of the Living Dead is usually considered the first modern zombie movie, but The Last Man on Earth came out four years earlier, and it's one of George Romero's inspirations.
