![]() before the movie hit theatres, and thought Michael Keaton [also in Beetlejuice and Batman] could never pull off the bad guy role. Man, did I ever underestimate him! I'm a fan of his work, but this movie shows how great an actor he really is! Forget Oscar, he deserves a Nobel Prize in acting for this one. Keaton plays Peter McCabe, sadistic murderer and authentic genius [and one of my favorite movie villains of all time!]. Well, it turns out that policeman Frank Conner [Andy Garcia also cool in Hoodlum] has a son who needs a bone marrow transplant and McCabe is the only match. Well, needless to ![]() say, McCabe puts his mind to escaping and you'll never forget how he does it, it puts MacGyver to shame. The pace and writing on this movie are absolutely perfect! I love the scene where McCabe uses defibrulator paddles to slow him down as he goes down the laundry chute, and the scene where he's driving along in a truck listening to CCR. I could watch this movie fifty times and never get tired of it, especially the ending which has me cheering every time I watch! If you want to see a good action movie, you can't go wrong with Desperate Measures!! ![]() anything. But in my entertainment, I love guns and violence! The Replacement Killers is the greatest gun movie I've ever seen!! The direction and cinematography are so different from every other movie. The gunfights are more like magical battles between powerful wizards than anything else. Plus you can really see why Chow Yun Fat is such a huge action star in Hong Kong! The guy's just plain immortal with a gun in his hand. The super hot Mira Sorvino is no slouch either, she's really great in the movie and isn't overshadowed by Chow Yun Fat at all. Oh, and watch for the perfectly cast Danny Trejo [also cool in From Dusk Till Dawn and Con Air], and Jurgen Prochnow [from In The Mouth of Madness]. There are lots of great gun scenes in other movies, but I've never seen any with as many as The Replacement Killers. This was ![]() Antoine Fuqua's first time directing [he also did a great job on Training Day], and he really has a good take on the "John Woo style". If you like Replacement Killers, you'll also like John Woo's Face Off and Broken Arrow. They have different plots, but the same high-octane action level. There isn't much real content out there for this movie, the Replacement Killers logo links to a fan site. Here are some other good Replacement Killers links:The Replacement Killers at the IMDB. ![]() than the last one. This time around, Sara Connor [Linda Hamilton from Beauty and the Beast] has been kept from her teenage son John Connor [Eddie Furlong from Brainscan]. She's in a mental institution for going on about the end of the world and killer cyborgs from the future. Well, it turns out that Skynet had a backup plan and sent a more advanced T-1000 Terminator [Robert Patrick from Die Hard 2, The Faculty, The X-Files, The Outer Limits, The Sopranos, Stargate Atlantis and The Unit] to kill young John Connor. But the resistance is able to send an old T-800 model [Arnold] to protect him. I'm not a big James Cameron fan at all, but he really pulled off a cool sequel with T2. Arnold really has a chance to put some meat on the role, playing John Connor's protector. The T-1000 was excellent when the movie came out, Robert Patrick really made you believe that a smaller guy could stand up to someone Arnold's size. But after seeing the awesome [and not just because she's hot] T-X from T3, I think she probably slurps down a T-1000 every morning for breakfast. ![]() Still, he's great for this movie. Also great in T2 are Joe Morton [from Speed and The Astronaut's Wife] and Earl Boen who plays Dr. Silberman in all three Terminator movies. I especially love when the T-1000 freezes and breaks apart, only to pool back together after he thaws. Plus his morphing is cool and not overused. I got the T2 Ultimate Edition from Artisan for helping with the extras on the Total Recall Limited Edition, and it's so full of cool Terminator stuff that you can easily get lost! ![]() like Scarface, Glengarry Glen Ross, Scent of a Woman, Heat, Donnie Brasco and The Devil's Advocate. Serpico is one of his absolute best! Made in 1973, it's based on the true story of Frank Serpico who was trying to fight police corruption. The corruption was so widespread, and the higher-ups didn't want to hear about. And on top of that, he was not the traditional type of cop the brass were used to, he was more hippy than cop. Serpico became an outcast on the force and was eventually shot under suspicious circumstances. Pacino is well known for ![]() characters that freak out and scream, and this is his best freak out scene, he literally rips the ass off of a guy's pants during a frisk, it's a riot! Even though it's one of his earlier movies, you can really see his chameleon-like ability to get into character. This is still definitely one of Al Pacino's best movies. I hate cops in real life, so it takes a lot to get me interested in a cop movie. Maybe because it's about the pigs being corrupt, and it's one of the best movies on the subject. Serpico is a classic and everyone should see it! The Serpico logo will link to a gallery I'm working on, stay tuned. Good links for Serpico are hard to find, here's what I could find:Serpico at the IMDB. Cast list, trailer, trivia, quotes and more Al Pacino's Loft ...great Pacino fan site! ![]() That's why Boris Karloff is the true and all time classic Frankenstein. A lot of the remakes didn't have universal's permission to use the square headed look from this movie, and sucked because of it. You just can't change old Frank's looks after they were so perfectly established here. In it's time, the movie horrified audiences, but now reanimation isn't that shocking. Still, the movie has a great creepy feel and horror movie atmosphere. And it's amazing how Karloff made the monster so human without any dialogue. Plus, being black and white only enhances the coolness of this great classic! Director James Whale does an excellent job, and Colin Clive is really perfect as Dr. Henry Frankenstein. I love how his thirst for discovery dances on the brink of madness.![]() You can really tell that the movie is truly great by how it has embedded itself into our culture. From Frankenberry cereal, to all the Frankenstein stuff that's sold every Halloween, to The Munsters and even Robert DeNiro played the monster in one movie remake. It's also so cool that the original story was written by a young lady [Mary Shelley] at a time when that just didn't happen. Plus, if you look at it Frankenstein is the original zombie movie! I especially love the cool statue of the Reaper with a sword in the graveyard scene, and how Dr, Frankenstein's creation turns on him for giving him a hellish existence he doesn't understand.
