![]() IT is the story of some kids from Derry who discover and battle an evil creature that's terrorizing the town's children. IT mostly takes the form of Pennywise the Clown [played perfectly by Tim Curry from Earth 2 and Mighty Max].The movie was made as a tv miniseries, and I'm glad because two hours just couldn't tell this story. The cast is fantastic and includes Jonathan Brandis [from SeaQuest DSV], Emily Perkins [from the Ginger Snaps movies], Seth Green [from Buffy, Enemy of the State, Idle Hands, ![]() and That 70's Show among others], Harry Anderson [from Night Court], Annette O'Toole [from Smallville], John Ritter [from Bride of Chucky and Bad Santa among others], and Tim Reid [from WKRP in Cincinatti and Simon & Simon]. So the movie's great just by cast alone, but the story's great too. Tim Curry really steals the spotlight, and since I've been running this site, I've heard from a lot of people who had nightmares because of Pennywise from this movie. There are even some IT fanatics who use the message board sometimes, this movie has a lot of fans. The logo for Stephen King's IT links to my newly rebuilt and upgraded site for the movie. ![]() Arnold stars as movie action star Jack Slater. Jack is a movie cop with a successful action franchise and his own set of catch phrases. His boss Lieutenant Dekker [Frank McRae from 48 Hours and Lock Up] never stops screaming about the stuff he's destroyed, and his hot daughter Whitney [Bridgette Wilson from House On Haunted Hill, Billy Madison and Just Visiting] always shows up at the right time. Meanwhile in the real world a huge Jack Slater fan named Danny Madigan [Austin O'Brien] gets a magic movie ticket from his projectionist friend Nick [Robert Prosky from Veronica's Closet and The Practice]. The magic ticket sends Danny into the Jack Slater movie, where he ends up as partners with his hero Jack Slater. Last Action Hero has a ton of memorable scenes like the mob funeral where Jack and Danny steal the body with a crane, and two great fights with The Ripper.![]() This was Art Carney's [from Firestarter] last movie. Also cool are F. Murray Abraham [from Thirteen Ghosts], and Anthony Quinn. This movie has two of my all time favorite Arnold movie villains too, maniac killer The Ripper [Tom Noonan from Robocop 2, Monster Squad, Heat and The Astronaut's Wife] and evil one eyed mastermind Benedict [Charles Dance from Alien 3]. I love The Ripper's awesome axe and Benedicts different glass eyes. And I really love how Jack becomes more of a real person once he's out of the movie, and how he hates Schwarzenegger because seeing him reminds him he's not real. This is right up there with the best "movie within a movie" ideas like Demons and Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Last Action Hero is such a solid movie, but unfortunately the numbskulls in charge have released it as a crappy pan&scan DVD only. We need a better release for this great movie! ![]() Tall Man with his legion of minions and Reggie and Mike who are trying to stop him from laying waste to our world!! As the movie starts, Mike [now played much better by James LeGros from Point Break, Enemy of the State, The Outer Limits and Sleeper Cell, but unfortunately Michael Baldwin returns as Mike after this] is getting out of the asylum he was in and starts after The Tall Man right away. He and Reggie take the Hemicuda and start to follow the trail of abandoned towns and empty cemetaries. They eventually join up with Liz [Paula Irvine] who Mike's been having dreams about. This movie really shows us some great stuff, like The Tall Man's embalming machine, the building of Reggie's infamous quad-barreled shotgun, a sample of the nightmare creatures The Tall Man likes to leave behind, the even more ![]() deadly gold spheres [with scanner and laser!], Reggie's impressive and explosive security system made from a beer can and a grenade, the cool lock that needs a sphere [!] to open it, a sphere drilling it's way right through a guy, and even the death of a Tall Man! And those are just off the top of my head! The Phantasm series is very dream-like and many things don't seem to make sense, but I've been watching very very closely and my theory is that The Tall Man's presence can warp perception and memory. That's why Mike and Reggie remember things like Jody's death and Reggie's house exploding very differently. Finally my favorite movie of the series is out on DVD! It took forever but it's so worth it for any Phantasm fan to pick up a copy. The Phantasm 2 logo links to the official site, here are some other cool links:Phantasm II at the IMDB. ![]() like Conspiracy Theory or Enemy of the State. In Firestarter, Stephen King's evil arm of the government called The Shop is experimenting on people. Just like the old LSD test the government used to do, they're giving college students a drug called Lot 6. That drug acts as a hallucinagen, but brings out latent abilities in some too. Vicky Tomlinson [the ultra hot Heather Locklear from Jury Duty, TJ Hooker, Spin City and LAX] and Andy McGee [David Keith from U-571 and The Outer Limits] take part in the test. They end up getting married and their daughter Charlie [Drew Barrymore from Cat's Eye, E. T., Scream, The Wedding Singer, Donnie Darko and 50 First Dates] is born with pyrokinesis. All the while, the family is watched closely by The Shop. Things go south and Vicky is killed, while Charlie and her father go on the run. ![]() David Kieth is really great as Andy McGee, who has the power of persuasion [with nosebleeds as a side effect, just like Maxwell Lord from Justice League]. Meanwhile, Captain Hollister [Martin Sheen from The Dead Zone, Apocalypse Now, Truth or Consequences N.M., The Time Shifters and The West Wing] and John Rainbird [George C. Scott] try to figure out how to turn a very powerful little girl into a government weapon. I read that Stephen King didn't like the movie, but I think it's one of the best Stephen King movie adaptations. There was a made for tv sequel with a totally different cast, which can't compare to the original. The Firestarter logo links to a cool Firestarter gallery I put together. ![]() Sutherland [from The Lost Boys, Truth or Consequences N.M., Dark City and 24], Julia Roberts [from The Pelican Brief and Conspiracy Theory], Kevin Bacon [from Animal House, Friday The 13th, Tremors, Stir Of Echoes and The Woodsman], William Baldwin [from Backdraft and Virus] and Oliver Platt [from Lake Placid and Bicentennial Man]. They're all med students and they're fascinated by the barrier between life and death. Led by Sutherland's character, they start creating near death [actually return to life] experiences. They use temperature and drugs to stop their life and after a few minutes, the others bring the person back. ![]() Now I don't believe that there's anything but oblivion after death, but the movie is very well done and has an interesting take on things. The problem is that something dark has followed them back from the other side and it's pretty dangerous. It's unusual to see so many great actors in the same movie, but the cool thing is their characters are all equal parts of the story. Flatliners is directed by Joel Schumacher [also directed DC Cab, The Lost Boys and Phone Booth] and uses a lot of colored lighting and cool architecture. With such a great cast, how could the movie not be cool. The only movie I think Kiefer Sutherland is better in is Truth or Consequences N.M., see that if you like Flatliners. There are almost no sites out there for this awesome movie. The Flatliners logo links to a cool gallery I put together, here are the only other links I could find that were any good:Flatliners at the IMDB. Cast list, trailer, trivia, quotes and more Pictures from 24 and Flatliners. Foreign with a bad layout, but they're there. See, I told you there wasn't much. Some reviews, but I don't really count reviews as actual content. I'm no critic, I only have stuff here I like and want to recommend. Some fan out there really needs to put up a site!! |
