![]() non-conformist living in a small town. As the people all around him are turning into preppie dweebs, he stays the same and clings onto his last few unchanged friends. Gavin is absolutely one of my favorite movie characters. Disturbing Behavior also stars Katie Holmes [the hottest girl ever! from Teaching Mrs. Tingle and Batman Begins] as a kind of skanky, semi-goth chick [in the best way!]. That's worth watching the movie alone! Another of my favorite actors, William Sadler [from DS9, The Outer Limits, Demon Knight, Rocketman and The Shawshank Redemption and others!] as the really quirky weird janitor. Also cool in the movie are Bruce Greenwood [from Nowhere Man and I, Robot], James Marsden [who later put down this movie because it had low ticket sales, he sucks], Katharine ![]() Isabelle [from John Doe, The Outer Limits, Ginger Snaps and Freddy vs. Jason], and Chad Donella [from Final Destination] as U.V., a cool albino stoner. It's a great story about the evils of conformity, and the deleted scenes on the DVD are crucial to the story! The studio forced a ton of cuts and key plot points are explained in the cut scenes. In the director's commentary track, I was surprised that such a great movie came from a guy with seemingly so little passion for his craft. As paranoia movies go, Disturbing Behavior is right up there with They Live, Conspiracy Theory or Enemy of the State! Bruce Greenwood is especially great as the polar opposite of his character in Nowhere Man. The Disturbing Behavior logo links to a gallery I put together. ![]() So of course this movie is up on the site. It really should have been called Hunters or something because it's the best vampire slayer movie made. James Woods [from Videodrome, Contact, and Casino] stars as Jack Crow, leader of a vatican sanctioned team of vampire slayers. One of the best things about this movie is how it shows the slayers gear and techniques. I especially like how they use a crossbow and winch to drag the "goons" out into the sunlight where they burst into flames. Well, while wiping out evil, they become the hunted when most of the team is wiped out by Valek, the first vampire. Thomas Ian Griffith is really great as Valek. After that, ![]() Jack Crow, hunts Valek with his right hand man Montoya [Daniel Baldwin from The Outer Limits, Homicide: Life On The Street, and Paparazzi], and a hooker named Katrina [Sheryl Lee] who has a psychic connection to Valek because of a bite. John Carpenter is a big western fan and it shows in Vampires, it's similar it feel to Near Dark and The Forsaken. The movie has some bad dialogue in spots, but the rest of the movie is cool enough to cancel that out. This isn't John Carpenter's best movie, but it's great and a must-see for Carpenter fans. And I should mention that you have to see Vampires in widescreen. John Carpenter is famous for his great use of the whole screen, so cropping it down to pan & scan definitely kills the coolness. The pan & scan version of Vampires is real garbage, while the widescreen version kicks ass! ![]() as an ex terrorist operative trying to live a new life in the states. The guilt from his past gets him to try to atone for everything by joining the Boston bomb squad. So instead of making bombs, he's stopping them. That is until his old mentor [Tommy Lee Jones from U.S. Marshals, The Fugitive, Double Jeopardy and Men In Black] finds out where he is. Tommy Lee is really great as a total nutcase mad bomber. His escape from prison could give MacGyver a run for his money. The rest of the cast includes Forest Whitaker [from Good Morning Vietnam, Species and Body Count], Suzy Amis [from The Usual Suspects], and Jeff's real dad Lloyd Bridges [from the Airplane movies and Seinfeld]. Plus, watch the training class scene for a young Cuba Gooding Junior in a small role. ![]() Blown Away sets up such a good pair of adversaries, and has so many cool bomb making and explosion scenes. The part where you think there might be a bomb in the house and every light switched on and cord plugged in gets an extreme close up is great suspense! This is definitely one of Tommy Lee Jones best characters! He's my favorite mad bomber since Crazy Harry from The Muppet Show [and I love that guy!]. Blown Away's initial release was hurt by the fact that Speed just came out, so as many people didn't go to "another bomb movie". I like Speed, but I still think Blown Away is a better bomb movie. The focus is more on the characters here, but without detracting from the great action. Jeff Bridges is better in The Big Lebowski, but still cool in Blown Away, and if you like Blown Away you should see Arlington Road and The Vanishing. There's not too much out there for this great movie, so I linked the Blown Away logo to a gallery I put together. Here are some other cool links:Blown Away at the IMDB. ![]() recent Star Wars movies] as a Chicago PD hostage negotiator. He gets framed for his partner's murder by crooked cops in his department. Circumstances leave him with no other option but to take hostages himself to get to the bottom of everything. Not trusting his own guys, he'll only deal with another negotiator from another precinct [Kevin Spacey from The Usual Suspects, Seven, Outbreak, Glengarry Glen Ross and American Beauty]. Either one of them can more than hold a movie on their own, but together, they're really fantastic. The rest of the cast is very cool, including Ron Rifkin [from Alias, The Outer Limits and ER season 2], David Morse [from 12 Monkeys, The Rock, Contact, The Green Mile and Bait], J.T. Walsh [from Good Morning Vietnam, Backdraft, Needful Things, ![]() Breakdown and Dark Skies], John Spencer [from The Rock, West Wing and L.A. Law], Siobhan Fallon [from Jury Duty, Men in Black and Rescue Me], Paul Giamatti [from Private Parts, Saving Private Ryan and Big Momma's House] and Regina Taylor. My favorite scene is when Samuel L. is giving another cop lessons on negotiating and it doesn't go well. It's also cool to see a hostage taker who's an expert on that kind of situation and all the police procedures. Great writing, a cool cast and some great action, you can't go wrong. There's a ton of suspense and the movie will keep you on the edge of your seat the first time you see it. ![]() timeless classic. Alfred Hitchcock's direction of this thriller is absolutely amazing. Plus Jimmy Stewart [from Mr Smith Goes To Washington, It's A Wonderful Life, The Man Who Knew Too Much and Vertigo] is perfect as always. Stewart plays a photographer with a broken leg, stuck in his apartment with nothing better to do than watch his neighbours. The very gorgeous Grace Kelly plays his girlfriend Lisa. Thelma Ritter is great too as his cantankerous nurse. Through the course of watching out his window and watching his neighbours, he suspects one of them, Lars Thorwald [Raymond Burr from Ironside and Perry Mason], has killed his wife. The whole movie was shot on a single set that was built specifically for Rear Window. Some other neighbours include ![]() Miss Lonelyheart [Judith Evelyn] who's sad because she's single, and the very bendy, athletic and social Miss Torso [Georgine Darcy]. I haven't watched a lot of other Hitchcock movies, but of the ones I've seen Rear Window is the best. There are crappy remakes, copies, and a lot of pop culture references to Rear Window in shows and movies, but it's one of a kind and a total classic by any standard. If you haven't seen it, make sure you do. And if you haven't seen it in a while, give it another look. The Rear Window logo links to a good fan site with quotes, sounds and some pictures. ![]() ![]() ![]() At the time the set was the largest indoor set built at Paramount Studios. The size of the set necessitated excavation of the soundstage floor. So Jeff's apartment was actually at street level. During the month-long shoot, Georgine Darcy, who played "Miss Torso", "lived" in her apartment all day, relaxing between takes as if really at home. While shooting, Alfred Hitchcock worked only in Jeff's "apartment." The actors in other apartments wore flesh-colored earpieces so that he could radio his directions to them. |
