![]() And Michael Baldwin returns to the role of Mike, even though James LeGros was better. But that still doesn't hurt the movie. This time Mike and Reggie are split up. While Mike is having some really Cronenberg moments with The Tall Man, Reggie continues to track him with some help. He ends up partnered with Rocky [Gloria Lynne Henry], a kickass martial arts amazon, and Tim [Kevin Connors] a kid who was made an orphan in The Tall Man's wake. After The Tall Man got his parents, Tim became quite the survivalist. Setting booby traps all around his house and killing off anyone or anything that came by to get him. This Phantasm story shows us that The Tall man uses zombies along with his well known dwarf and sphere armies.![]() We see a lot more of the killer spheres too, including what's inside them!! I really love that swarm of spheres in this movie, and I couldn't believe how cool the scene was where they had Reggie pinned up against the wall!! Like all of the Phantasm movies, this one raises even more questions than ever. How are Mike and The Tall Man connected? We know there was a gold sphere in one Tall Man's head, what's one doing in Mike? Is he one of whatever The Tall Man is? Did The Tall Man make him like that? We'll probably never know, but that's the way the Phantasm series works. Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead is my second favorite of the series, with Phantasm II being my favorite. Part IV is great too, but don't expect the answers you're looking for. The Phantasm III logo links to the official Phantasm site. ![]() one of the greatest horror/scifi movies ever! The Thing is about an isolated outpost full of guys who discover an evil shape-changing alien is among them! It's along the same lines as the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers or The Puppet Masters, but with even more paranoia and suspense! Also, The Thing is famous for its excellent gory special effects! The various and disgusting unfinished forms that are seen in The Thing aren't easily forgotten! The suspense is so thick in this movie, one scene in particular has been etched on my brain since the first time I saw it. They come up with a way to test someone's blood to see if they're the thing or not. MacReady [Kurt Russell from Soldier, Stargate, Tombstone and Backdraft] has the others tied up while he ![]() tests their blood. You'll never forget that scene once you see it! The cast is really great too, and includes Keith David [from They Live, The Puppet Masters, Requiem For A Dream, Armageddon, Pitch Black and the voice of Goliath on Gargoyles and Despero on Justice League], Wilford Brimley [from Cocoon and The Firm], T.K. Carter [the voice of Turbo Teen], David Clennon [from LAX], Richard Dysart, Charles Hallahan [from Hunter, I was shocked to find out he died], Richard Masur [from Stephen King's IT and Multiplicity]. I especially love all the great sci-fi "body snatchers" paranoia and the awesome and very gory creature effects. They just don't make enough movies that are this good, so if you haven't seen it, make this one a priority! ![]() It's about a pretty average guy [Edward Norton from Primal Fear, The Score and The Italian Job] who has insomnia and is getting tired of his consumer based existence. During his business travels he comes across the very interesting Tyler Durden [Brad Pitt from 12 Monkeys, Seven and Spy Game]. Tyler has a very awesome way of looking at things and draws this guy into his weird world of soap, fighting and rebellion against the status quo. Tyler Durden has more cool stuff to say than any other movie character I've ever seen. He really does make sense and had me wanting to join up with Project Mayhem too! [but I'm an anarchist anyway, so it wasn't hard] Together, they go from starting Fight Club to fighting a war against the cultural decay we're all brainwashed into. I especially love the mission they complete to put a flaming smiley face on the side of a big office building. Fight Club really is up there with other great anti-consumerism movies like John Carpenter's They Live [aliens controlling our consumer society from behind the scenes] and The Stuff [an evil organism taking over the world by marketing itself as a tasty treat]. As you watch the movie the first time, there will seem to be something slightly off but hard to pinpoint.![]() On the second viewing, it's a whole different movie so it must be seen at least twice. Also cool in the movie are Helena Bonham Carter [from the Planet Of The Apes remake and Big Fish], singer Meat Loaf [from The Outer Limits], Zach Grenier [from Swordfish], Holt McCallany [from The Peacemaker, Three Kings and CSI Miami], and Jared Leto [from Requiem For A Dream, American Psycho and Urban Legend]. To me, Fight Club is the dark progression of the themes of revolution and hating the way the world is that are used in Pump Up The Volume [watch them both and see what I mean]. ![]() It's about a government stealth pilot named Deakins [John Travolta from Pulp Fiction, Face Off and Swordfish] who goes rogue and steals some nuclear weapons. Now it's up to his ex co-pilot Riley Hale [Christian Slater from Pump Up The Volume, Kuffs, Hard Rain and Mindhunters] and hot park ranger Terry Carmichael [Samantha Mathis from Pump Up The Volume, American Psycho and Harsh Realm] to stop his plan. Also great in Broken Arrow are Delroy Lindo [from Ransom, Gone In 60 Seconds, The One, The Core and Sahara], Bob Gunton [from Demolition Man, The Shawshank Redemption and Greg The Bunny], Frank Whaley [from The Doors, Pulp Fiction, The Outer Limits and The Dead Zone], Kurtwood Smith [from Robocop, Fortress, That 70's Show, Zeta Project and Star Trek Voyager] and Daniel von Bargen [from G.I Jane, The Faculty and Seinfeld]. Broken Arrow has lots of explosions, shooting and crazy driving.![]() Plus John Travolta's character really is a great movie villain with an evil master plan. If you like movies like Con Air and Commando, you'll absolutely love Broken Arrow. I love the scene where Hale shoots down the helicopter and has to dodge the wreckage, or when Howie Long's character gets kicked through the boxcar's wall. It's really cool to see Christian Slater and Samantha Mathis team up again, they were both great in Pump Up The Volume. ![]() who have been known to appear at the scene of a paranormal or unexplained event like alien sightings. They dress like the agents in this movie, act strangely and it's hard to recall any details about them. The MIB's are important figures in the world of conspiracy theories. There's some question about their existence, but I'm a believer. This movie isn't really a serious look at them [try The Silencers for that], but it's pretty funny, has fantastic special effects, and overall I like it a lot. It stars Will Smith [from Enemy Of The State, ID4, and I, Robot among others] and Tommy Lee Jones [also great in Blown Away and Natural Born Killers] as two MIB's who's job is to police the large extraterrestrial population that's living among us. Vincent D'Onofrio [great in Strange Days, The Thirteenth Floor, Impostor and![]() Law & Order CI] is fantastic as the movie's alien villain [in human disguise], and Rip Torn [very funny in Trial & Error] is cool as the head of the MIB's. The special effects, especially the alien creatures are top notch, and that makes the movie more believable even though it's a far out concept. The weapons and equipment in the movie are very cool too. Overall, it's not a deep movie or anything but it's really well done and entertaining! The sequel was a good try, but don't waste your time on it. The Men In Black logo links to a gallery of hi-res Men In Black pics from the movie. Here are some other links:Men In Black at the IMDB.
