I have a lot of horror and sci-fi on the site, but only a few cool fantasy movies. Lord of The Rings: Fellowship of the   Ring is the grandaddy of fantasy movies! I've never read any rings books, but I've always heard they were good. But wow, what a totally amazing movie! It stars Elijah Wood [from Deep Impact, The Faculty, Sin City and Green Street Hooligans] as Frodo Baggins, a simple country guy who gains possession of a magical ring that wields the powers of ultimate evil. So everybody wants the ring for themselves. Everyone except Frodo who just wants his simple life in the country back. Well it turns out that the ring is the key to stopping the evil dude who made it from taking over the world. So it's up to poor Frodo and his buddies to get the ring back to the evil hell pit that spawned it. That's easier said than done though. If you've ever played D&D you'll especially love this movie. The rest of the great cast includes Sean Astin [from The Goonies, Encino Man, Bulworth, 50 First Dates, 24 and Jeremiah], Sean Bean [from Ronin, Equilibrium, National Treasure, The Island and Silent Hill], Orlando Bloom,  Billy Boyd, Ian Holm [from Alien, Naked Lunch and eXistenZ], Ian McKellen [from The Last Action Hero and The X-Men movies], Christopher Lee [from Sleepy Hollow and Star Wars Episodes II & III], Dominic Monaghan [from Lost], Viggo Mortensen [from The Prophecy and G.I. Jane], John Rhys-Davies [from Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Sliders, Star Trek Voyager and Gargoyles], Liv Tyler [from Armageddon] and Hugo Weaving [from The Matrix and V for Vendetta]. This one's out on DVD as a super deluxe 4 disc set! The cool thing is that the greatest effects are the ones that make the world look real, like resizing actors and stuff. Wow! Another amazing adaptation of sci-fi legend Philip K. Dick's work! With movies like Total Recall, Bladerunner, Screamers, Minority Report and Impostor all based on his work,  I've gotta put his books on my to-do list. Well, just like the rest, this adaptation is an awesome sci-fi story. It stars Gary Sinise [also great in The Stand] as Spencer Olham, an earth scientist who helps build weapons for an Earth/Alien war that's going on. Madeline Stowe [awesome in 12 Monkeys] is great, if a little underused as his wife. Well one day Spencer's on the way to work and he's jumped, sedated and taken away by a black-ops team led by the sinister and driven Major Hathaway [Vincent D'Onofrio, also great in Strange Days, The Thirteenth Floor and Men in Black]. When he wakes up, he's told he's not really Spencer Olham, but an artificial alien duplicate that has a powerful bomb built into it's biology. Well, luck and quick wits get Spencer out of that situation and on the run. Now it's up to Spencer to find people he can trust and the proof he needs to get his life back. I love near-future sci-fi, and this world in the movie is great. Very similar to the worlds featured in Total Recall and The 6th Day.  The rest of the cast is great too, including Mekhi Phifer [from The Dawn Of The Dead remake and ER], Tony Shalhoub [from Galaxy Quest, Thirteen Ghosts and Men In Black], Tim Guinee [from Vampires, Blade and Golden Years], Gary Dourdan [from Playing God, Alien: Resurrection and CSI], Clarence Williams III [from The Silencers, Hoodlum, Half Baked and Reindeer Games], plus small roles by Ted King [from the Timecop tv show], Tracey Walter [from Batman, City Slickers, Junior, Independence Day, Desperate Measures and Best Of The West], Rachel Luttrell [from Stargate Atlantis] and Rosalind Chao [from Star Trek Deep Space Nine]. Return Of The Jedi is the best movie of the original Star Wars Trilogy. Some people don't like this one as much because of the Ewoks. They don't bother me, and all of the great Jabba The Hutt stuff more than makes up for that.  But then again, I'm no die hard Wars fan, I'm more into Trek. I just love all the alien creatures like the Gamorrean Guards, Salacious Crumb and Rancor monster for example. Plus, Jedi has an awesome epic feel to it, even more than the original and Empire Strikes Back. And let's not forget the very hot Carrie Fisher wearing that slave girl bikini! The whole cast is cool, including Mark Hamill [from Time Runner, Body Bags, Village of the Damned, The Flash and a ton of voice work for cartoons and video games], Harrison Ford [from Blade Runner, Air Force One and the Indiana Jones movies], Carrie Fisher [from The Burbs], Billy Dee Williams [from Batman and Undercover Brother], Alec Guinness and James Earl Jones [from Conan the Barbarian, Field Of Dreams, Sneakers, The Sandlot and Clean Slate]. I especially love the scenes in Jabba's palace, the Speeder Bikes and when Chewbacca takes over the Empire's gear an uses it on them on Endor.  Return of the Jedi is a fantastic movie, and I was lucky to see it in the theatre on it's first run. But I do have some serious problems with how it's been released. George Lucas has continued to add to and re-edit the movie every chance he gets. As editions of the movie get more and more "special", the original movie is lost. And the latest insult is on the DVD release, at the end of Jedi we now see Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader's ghost. That's the ultimate crap! The original version is the best, and every time it's butchered it gets crappier. The real fans of this great movie deserve to get a good release of the unaltered Return of the Jedi! When somebody asks me about funny movies, the first two I mention are Rocketman and Clerks! It's the first and best appearance of Jay and Silent Bob, and so funny you'll bust a gut laughing.  Director Kevin Smith's [he plays Silent Bob] first movie, Clerks takes the crazy antics of a couple of retail counter jockeys and turns it into pure art! Any job has it's craziness, but I think store clerk has a bit more than others. Weird people come in wanting strange stuff all the time and you have to be friendly to them no matter what they're like to you. Well, this movie takes all those workplace antics and really show the crazy stuff that goes on. Think about it, you pop in the store for some gum and a Twix bar, you see that guy for like five minutes every few days. He's there all day and you're just one of the crazy nuts he deals with. The stars of the movie, Dante [Brian O'Halloran] and Randal [Jeff Anderson] have taken the art of not caring about your job to new heights! Just watch how many times Randal locks up the video store to go somewhere [even to another store to rent a video!].  I love how Dante induces customers to be honest by making them paranoid, Randall's super laid back attitude, and how stupid the customers are. The rest of the cast includes Marilyn Ghigliotti, the very hot Lisa Spoonhauer, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith himself. Clerks is black and white but don't let that stop you from watching, YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! And now there's a Clerks sequel out! The tenth anniversary DVD has a fantastic documentary about how Clerks got made and distributed that'll make you want to make a movie of your own. It's really amazing everything Kevin Smith went through to get Clerks to us! Well, it's about time a Tim Robbins movie makes it from my to do list to the site. Tim's really great in this movie as well as High Fidelity, Arlington Road, The Hudsucker Proxy and of course The Shawshank Redemption! You'll be seeing some of those   on upcoming pages for sure. Well, this movie stars Tim as Gary Winston, a nerdy trillionaire who runs the world's biggest software company. He'll go to any lengths to rip the guts out of the competition and get the best people or their work. Enter genius programmer Milo [Ryan Phillippe from Cruel Intentions and The Way Of The Gun], who has skill that Gary needs to finish his big project [an all Gary, all the time channel on everything electronic from tv, to baby monitor and everything in between]. Basically Milo finds out about the evil plan and it's up to him to stop it. Also great are Claire Forlani [from The Rock, Mallrats, Mystery Men and Green Street Hooligans], Rachael Leigh Cook [from The Outer Limits and Las Vegas], Douglas McFerran, Richard Roundtree [from Seven, Shaft and Alias], Tygh Runyan [from Disturbing Behavior, The Outer Limits, Dead Like Me and John Doe],  Nate Dushku [brother of the very hot Eliza Dushku from Buffy], Ned Bellamy [from Saw, Runaway Jury, Con Air, Universal Soldier, The Shawshank Redemption and Seinfeld], Tyler Labine [from Invasion, Jake 2.0 and Dead Last], and Scott Bellis [from Timecop, The Dead Zone, Smallville, The Outer Limits and The X-Files]. There are a lot of story twists, and I found the tech stuff semi-realistic, unlike most other computer related movies. The only thing about this movie is that the story's too far out. I mean who would ever believe in the world's richest nerd running a giant software company. And even more far out is the idea of spreading your software across the world in order to take over everything. Nothing like that could ever happen, right?
