![]() of Khan is really the only thing from the original trek I like. It's such a well written movie that it transcends trek and it's just a classic movie! Usually I hate when a director isn't into the subject, but here Nicholas Meyer said he shot this scifi movie like an old sea-going adventure. It worked surprisingly well for him, but he had a great script to work with too. The original cast is here, including Leonard Nimoy [from Transformers the Movie and the '78 Invasion of the Body Snatchers], William Shatner [the king of cheesy acting], DeForest Kelley, Nichelle Nichols, James Doohan and Walter Koenig [from The Starlost and Babylon 5]. Plus you'll find cool actors like the great Ricardo Montalban [from Fantasy Island and Freakazoid!] who's unforgettable as Khan, Paul Winfield [from Cliffhanger and The Terminator], Bibi Besch [from Tremors, Street Hawk, Human Target, Northern Exposure and Tales From The Crypt], Merritt Butrick [from Star Trek: TNG] and Kirstie Alley [from ![]() For Richer or Poorer, Cheers and Veronica's Closet]. I especially love the scene where Captain Chekov and Captain Terrell find Khan's home and Chekov realizes what's going on. Plus, that "Seti-Eel" is one of the nastiest alien creatures in scifi history. After having that thing in his brain, I can't believe they ever trusted Chekov after that. Khan is one of cinema's greatest villains, and his seething hatred for Kirk [I can relate] is the only thing driving him. The episode "Space Seed" where Khan first appears is actually one of the less cheesy episodes. Wrath of Khan is so good, you could replace all the trek stuff with generic scifi, and it would still kick ass! The Wrath of Khan logo links to a great collection of video clips on the official site. ![]() hate this cool movie. They and their big business, pullution-friendly handlers are profiting from our world's demise. In The Day After Tomorrow, global warming causes enough environmental disaster to trigger a new ice age. And not over a geological timeline, but really damn quick. Once it starts, scientist Jack Hall [Dennis Quaid from Innerspace] tries to warn the powers that be who basically write him off as an environmentalist tree hugger. Also cool in the movie are Jake Gyllenhaal [from Donnie Darko], Emmy Rossum, Sela Ward, Dash Mihok, Jay O. Sanders [from Kiss The Girls and For Richer and Poorer], Austin Nichols, Arjay Smith, Tamlyn Tomita [from Stargate SG-1, Seven Days, 24 and The Agency] and Ian Holm [from The Lord of The Rings, Deep Blue Sea and Naked Lunch]. This movie should be a wake up call to everyone, haven't you noticed that the weather really is a mess the last few years? Places are seeing weather patterns they've never seen before, or at least at times it's never come before. The world's weather is a mess and the politicians don't seem to care.![]() And don't even get me started on a certain person who blew off the Kyoto Accord and I'd assume grinds up endangered species to put in his coffee. Sure, this is one of those big disaster blockbusters, but it's about a real issue that affects us all. And just because the timeline in the movie is exaggerated, don't let that make you feel better. The environment is in big trouble and it might be too late to even do any good. So even though this movie is over the top, think about the underlying meaning. The special effects are great too! Roland Emmerich [director of Independence Day and Stargate] does it again! ![]() and has a fantastic cast of funny people. There's Chevy Chase [from Saturday Night Live, the Fletch movies, Memoirs of An Invisible Man, and the National Lampoon Vacation movies], Rodney Dangerfield [one of my favorite comedians, also in Natural Born Killers, Back To School, The Simpsons and Still Standing], Ted Knight [from Too Close For Comfort], Michael O'Keefe [from Roseanne] and Bill Murray [from Ghostbusters, Stripes, The Man Who Knew Too Little, What About Bob, and Groundhog Day]. I especially like Al Czervik [Rodney Dangerfield] as the loudly dressed lout who invades the country club, infuriating the stuffy Judge [Ted Knight]. And how Carl Spackler [Bill Murray], insanely goofy groundskeeper, gets into a war [literally!] with the pesky gopher. I love Dangerfield's hilariously huge and pimped out golf bag with the tape deck and remote controlled club ejector!![]() Chevy Chase is unforgettable in this one too with his laid back hilarity. The rest of the cast includes Sarah Holcomb [from Animal House], Scott Colomby [from the Porky's movies, Quincy and Hunter], Cindy Morgan, and Brian Doyle-Murray [from Groundhog Day, Multiplicity, JFK, Jury Duty, Scrooged, Saturday Night Live and Yes Dear]. ![]() super hotness and I'll definitely check a movie out. I was pleasantly surprised at how funny 50 First Dates really was. Adam Sandler [from Saturday Night Live, Airheads, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer and others] is funny without being that over-the-top guy he has been in other movies. I'm a bigger fan of Drew Barrymore's early movies [E.T., Firestarter and Cat's Eye], but her small part in Scream was cool, plus she's very hot and funny in 50 First Dates. Also in the movie are Sean Astin [from Jeremiah season 2, 24, The Goonies and the Lord of the Rings movies], Rob Schneider [from Saturday Night Live and The Animal], Dan Aykroyd [from Doctor Detroit, Changing Places, Ghostbusters, The Great Outdoors, Sneakers, Chaplin and Evolution]. It's been said that 50 First Dates is just a copy of The Wedding Singer. Well The Wedding Singer wasn't bad, but I think 50 First Dates is funnier. Plus Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore make a good movie couple, so they should make more stuff together. In the movie, Drew Barrymore's character Lucy, loses her short term memory every night, just like Dana Carvey in Clean Slate.![]() Adam Sandler's character Henry falls in love with her and has to start fresh every day. Sure, this has a down side, but who wouldn't want a girlfriend who would always forget stupid stuff you said and did yesterday? Parts of the movie are almost Adam Sandler's version of Groundhog Day. He has to spend half of his day just getting Lucy to like him again, and it doesn't work every day. I love the scene where Lucy beats Ula with a bat, and when Henry's crying and singing along with The Beach Boys, what a riot. If you're looking for a light movie that'll provide some laughs, definitely check out 50 First Dates. The 50 First Dates logo links to the official site.
