Slither is a cool gory zombie-filled alien invasion-fest of a movie! The movie is a lot like the great Night Of The Creeps, the only other alien slugs making people into zombies movie that I know of.  Once the slugs get into a human host through the mouth, that person becomes a slime spitting zombie who shares a hive like mind with the original infectee. The alien organism can also turn people into huge bloated incubators that explode into a giant swarm of new slugs too. Plus the original patient zero mutates into a huge gross creature that grows in size and power. The movie has many gross scenes, like the swarms of wrigling alien slugs, and the ravenous eating habits of those that become incubators. Slither has an old school alien invasion vibe, mixed with the gory horror movie stuff. I think it's just the right mix of the two. Michael Rooker [from The Dark Half, Cliffhanger, The Replacement Killers, The 6th Day, Jumper, The Outer Limits and Jeremiah] does an excellent job as Grant, the primary infectee.  The rest of the cast is great, including Nathan Fillion [from Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Drive], Don Thompson [from MacGyver, The Commish, Two, The X-Files and Battlestar Galactica], Elizabeth Banks [from the Spider-Man movie trilogy], Gregg Henry [from Raising Cain, Voyagers!, Strange Luck, Boston Public, 24 and The Handler] and Xantha Radley [from Thirteen Ghosts]. The movie has lots of funny comedy too, but it's well written and well placed. The trailer makes Slither seem way goofier than it actually is so don't let that discourage you from watching. The movie is kind of a combination of Night Of The Creeps, The Blob, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, The Thing and Planet Terror. If you like movies with lots of gore, you'll like this one! I love all the shambling zombie scenes, all the gore, the creepy alien-infected little girl, the scene where Starla skewers the deputy's neck with a metal pole, and the dark basement where MacReady lights his lighter to see what's there. As a huge fan of Night Of The Creeps, I think that Slither is the next best thing to getting a sequel to that old classic. Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is probably my favorite one of Jason's endless [hopefully] stream of movies so far! It has the greatest Jason resurrection of all the movies. The movie starts with Tommy Jarvis [Thom Matthews from Return Of The Living Dead and Return Of The Living Dead Part II], a former survivor of Jason's rampage,  going to Jason's grave to make sure he's dead. Tommy is all messed up as anybody would be and digs up Jason, stabbing his corpse with a big metal piece of fence. Then lightning strikes the metal pole and the jolt brings a gory maggot-eaten Jason back to kill again! For a while it's only Tommy who knows about the danger, but he's messed up and nobody believes him at first. The name's even been changed from Crystal Lake to bury the old stories, and that's just how the sheriff [David Kagen from CSI, Enterprise and Life] wants it. Meanwhile Jason's out looking for victims, and makes some great kills. He takes out some paintball people in the woods, a couple in a car in a very cool scene, and a wandering drunk. By this time, the sheriff's hot daughter Megan [Jennifer Cooke from V] and her friends Nikki [Darcy DeMoss from Reform School Girls and Return To Horror High], Cort [Tom Fridley from The Karate Kid and Face Off] and   Sissy [the very hot Renee Jones from WKRP in Cincinnati, Quincy M.E., Night Court, L.A. Law and Star Trek The Next Generation] are starting their jobs as camp counselors at the former Crystal Lake. Jason has more phenominal kills in the movie too. I especially like when he kills the two teens having sex in the motor home and after it's on fire on it's side, Jason stands on top of it like he rules the world! The scene where he scares the kids but doesn't hurt them is cool too, and so is the great fiery showdown with Tommy Jarvis on Crystal Lake! The only thing this great Friday The 13th movie is missing is some girls getting naked, and with some hot girls in the cast it was a real missed opportunity to make the movie perfect. Even without that though, this is a fantastic example of Jason Voorhees in action! If you think all or most of the many Friday The Thirteenth sequels were schlock, you really need to see Jason Lives! At first look, Pulse appears to be just another crappy japanese horror remake with a teen cast. As a matter of fact, that's what a lot of people still say about it. But I think it's a lot more than that. It starts off like a standard teen horror with a string of deaths, but by the end you realize it's way more  ! Pulse is about the end of civilization as we know it, and all because of the technology we use every day. In searching for new frequencies and more bandwidth for our technological use, a gateway is opened to another layer of reality and the creatures there want our world. It's great how they take people over and those people eventually turn into creepy black crud! And the scale of the invasion by the end of the movie gives it so much more scope than your average teen horror. The cast does a great job, including Kristin Bell [from Veronica Mars and Heroes], Ian Somerhalder [from Lost, Smallville and Now And Again], the super hot Christina Milian [from Smallville and Get Real], Rick Gonzalez [from Reaper, Boston Public and War Of The Worlds], Jonathan Tucker [from The Black Donnellys, The Ruins and Hostage], Samm Levine [from Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, That 70's Show and Still Standing], Ron Rifkin [from Alias, ER and The Negotiator], Zach Grenier [from Fight Club, Swordfish and 24] and Brad Dourif [from Child's Play, Bride Of Chucky, Alien: Resurrection, Prophecy III, Babylon 5, The X-Files and Star Trek: Voyager].  One of my favorite horror movie elements is the crazy guy who really knows what's going on, and Brad Dourif is so excellent as that guy in Pulse! I also love the red tape that gives people a way to keep the invasion out, but only if they go completely nuts with it. And I love the innocent scene that shows a guy cleaning black stuff off a wall in the school stairwell, great foreshadowing of what's to come! Pulse starts with teen horror, but it's up there with the best end of the world movies like The Stand, 12 Monkeys and Dawn of The Dead! Wrong Turn is the best redneck horror movie I've seen! It's a pretty common horror plot, a bunch of city people end up stuck in the middle of nowhere. Then they're hunted my some maniac or serial killer.  Deliverance is probably the most famous one, it's even mentioned in Wrong Turn. What makes Wrong Turn so much better to me is that it's not some maniac, it's a family of the most monstrously deformed and inbred rednecks you'll find in any movie. They might technically be human, but they're more monsters than men. That makes them way cooler to me than just some guy who wants to kill people. The coolness of these mutant mountain men, make the whole movie a step above the rest. The cast of Wrong Turn is great too, including Eliza Dushku [from True Lies, The New Guy, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and Tru Calling], Desmond Harrington [from Ghost Ship, Taken and Rescue Me], the very hot Emmanuelle Chriqui [from Jake 2.0 and Entourage], Jeremy Sisto [from Nightmares & Dreamscapes and Law & Order], Kevin Zegers [from the Dawn Of The Dead remake and Zoom], the super hot Lindy Booth [from Cry Wolf, the Dawn Of The Dead remake, Relic Hunter, Odyssey 5, The 4400 and October Road], Julian Richings [from Robocop, Cube, Urban Legend, The Time Shifters and Saw IV],  David Huband [from Frequency and Cube Zero] and Wayne Robson [from Cube, Wrong Turn 2, Ray Bradbury Theater, Strange Luck and The Red Green Show]. Wrong Turn does have a lot of gore, but it's not just crappy torture porn like Hostel, Carver and their like. The gore serves the story awesomely, and Wrong Turn 2 is the same way with some really excellent kills. Wrong Turn is a great movie about being out of your element and unable to reach help in an extreme situation. Those are very common fears for a reason, and our modern society has really dulled survival skills for most of us. So don't write this movie off as just another hack and slash. Demons is a great old school italian gore-fest of a horror movie! Writers Dario Argento and Lamberto Bava [also the director] have crafted one of the best movie within a movie stories you'll see anywhere. A mysterious guy in a strange metal mask   [Michele Soavi, director of Dellamorte Dellamore aka Cemetery Man] hands out free movie tickets to random people on the street. The people arrive at the very cool and ominous looking Metropol Theatre without knowing anything about the movie. The movie shown in Demons is about Nostradamus and people becoming demons. "They will make cemeteries their cathedrals and the cities will be your tombs" he warns. The same events from the movie begin to happen in the movie theater itself, as people start to become possessed by demons. The gore and demon mayhem goes on from there, with some of the all time great practical gore and horror effects ever! I don't watch a lot of european movies, but Demons [also called Demoni] is a real horror classic! Plus, the foreign elements give everything a cool slightly off kilter surreal atmosphere. The focus in the movie really isn't the characters, but the cast does a good job with what they're given. The cast includes Urbano Barberini [from Casino Royale], the very hot Natasha Hovey, Fiore Argento [from Phenomena], Paola Cozzo, the awesome hot Fabiola Toledo, Nicoletta Elmi, Geretta Geretta and Bobby Rhodes.  For a movie from 1985, the effects are great and all the demons look pretty damn cool. The gore effects are great too, including ripped off body parts, skewered eyeballs, hideous transformations, lots of bright green demon slime and much more. I like the mysterious otherworldly quality in the theatre once the movie starts, like all the exits being suddenly blocked and the whole thing never being completely explained. This is a true 80's horror great, and if you haven't seen Demons you really need to check it out! The sequel, Demons 2, is cool too though it's been a while so I'll have to re-watch that one.
